  14.    EXCEPTIONS OR VARIATIONS
  15.    1.  It is sometimes permissible to omit the call designator of
  16. the station you are calling BUT only after communications have
  17. been established and no confusion will occur.  Don't waste time,
  18. by using superfluous callsigns.
  19.    2.  The term "THIS IS" is used to separate the FROM and TO
  20. callsigns.  If, and only if, confusion will not result, omitting
  21. the "THIS IS" phrase is permissible.
  22.    3.  If you are the calling station and you omit your own
  23. tactical callsign, you can create confusion.  In certain
  24. situation, such as quick replies between operators, it can be
  25. accomplished without confusion.  You must NOT use this
  26. simplification where messages can be interpreted incorrectly.
  27.    4.  Elimination of the words "OVER" and "OUT" is possible
  28. where it doesn't introduce problems.  Unkeying after your message
  29. implies "OVER".  To comply with FCC regulations, you must give
  30. your FCC assigned call every ten minutes OR at the end of a
  31. series of exchange communications, whichever comes first.  Giving
  32. your callsign can imply an "OUT" ending.  Should giving your
  33. call cause any confusion, do not hesitate to add the word "OUT".
  34. In HF single-sideband radio, it IS necessary to say the word
  35. "OVER".
